Training and Lessons - Tina Caldwell

Let me start by welcoming you to Caldwell Dressage. I have been here at The Rancho Riding Club for almost 15 years. My professional career started here in 1993 when I partnered up with three time olympian Guenter Seidel. I was his assistant at the Rancho Riding Club until 2002. When faced with the decision to follow him to another facility, I chose to continue on my own here at the club.
I grew up here in San Diego and started riding at a local riding school when I was 7 years old. Immediately becoming hooked to horses I never stopped riding. My discipline of choice as a youngster was three day eventing. I rode on an eventing team in Del Mar for many years, helping that team achieve many honors. I was considered the secret weapon since my horse "D.J." and I were always first after the dressage phase. In 1987 when Guenter came the the united states and took over as head trainer at the barn was at. I chose to switch to Dressage. Guenter found me a wonderful dressage schoolmaster "Botticelli". Botticelli and I went on to win many honors. We competed in the National young rider trials, achieving a place on the team, and multiple championship ribbons.  By the age of 19 I was already competing at the Grand Prix level and loving every minute of it.In 1994 Botticelli and I competed in the Olympic Trials here at the Rancho Riding Club and it was after that, that I retired him at the age of 21. I gave him to a client of mine who took loving care of him until he passed away quietly in his stall here at the Club at the age of 30.
I have had wonderful success on many client horses. Reserve champion at the year end Nationals Intermediare Freestyle on Susan Whites "Fantastico". Grand Prix Champion on her mare "Tanzen". Reserve Champion in the International Championships on Linda Edwards mare "Jonkara" and multiple othere honars on all the wonderful horses I have had the pleasure to ride.
I have also had much success in bringing horses along in their careers, importing many of them from europe and bringing them along for their owners to compete up the levels. My own horse I imported as a four year old, and now at age 13 he is getting ready to compete Grand Prix. I am anxiously awaiting that day!
I have had many wonderful opportunities to train with such greats as Guenter Seidel, Robert dove(5 time Olympian), Klaus Balkenhohl(Olympic Coach for Germany), Debbie McDonald(Olympian), Ulla Salzgeber(Worlld Cup Champion). Gathering a little kowledge from each of them that I can pass down to my students.
In January 2007, having spent most of my carreer working with the competitive amateur and their horses I opened up my riding school. To focus on the children and the beginning adult who doesn't yet have a horse. It has been wonderfully successful, and the students both children and adults are learning and having fun on the school horses provided for them to ride. This riding school has proven to be a fantastic source of knowledge for those just learning to ride. It provides a foundation from which the riders can move on rapidly in their riding carrers.
I am proud to call the Rancho Riding Club my home. Being here has been nothing but a joy and a privelage. The impecaple grounds and first class care of the horses here makes it the top notch facility it is. We trainers here have a saying, everytime someone walks by and asks how we are, we always answer, "Just another day in Paradise!"
